Tony Stalker Death: Ex Group Development Director 19985-91
Tony Stalker, former Group Development Director at Holborn Circus, died in May this year, just before his 64th birthday, after being diagnosed during a routine blood test for myeloma (a malignant bone marrow disease) some three and a half years ago.
Tony was seconded from Maxwell Communication Corporation for some 6 years to MGN at Holborn Circus. He joined the new technical team responsible for introducing the first editorial and adverting-driven systems for the MGN National Titles across the three publishing centres, Holborn, Manchester and Glasgow, during the second half of the 1980″s. Tony then continued by joining the team introducing full colour to the Holborn-based titles in 1988 and the accompanying page transmission systems to the new MGN remote printing operations. In particular, Tony very competently oversaw all recruitment and training aspects for the new technologies.
During the early 1990″s, Tony became Commercial Director for the Eastern European newspapers acquired by Maxwell. He also became technically involved in the Moscow News at the time that several Mirror editorial staff worked on the English Edition. Tony subsequently joined other ex MGN colleagues in a newspaper and magazine consultancy business and worked on many assignments in the UK and Europe during the next ten years.
Tony was a true and very likeable professional and made a significant contribution to the successful outcome of the wide-reaching technical changes that occurred at MGN during the 1980″s.
Tony leaves a wife, Heather, a son Alistair and two daughters, Melanie and Rebecca. Fortunately, Rebecca”s wedding was brought forward to last September from this Spring so Tony was able to give his daughter away on the day.
