Thomas Parsons

Posted: June 6th, 2023

Former electrician and Father of the Chapel at Mirror Group, THOMAS WILLIAM PARSONS, died on 26 April, 2022 (sic), at the age of 93.

His daughter Diane Chandler sent us her tribute: “My dad was an electrician at the Daily Mirror all his working life, and was heavily involved in the print trades union movement. He served as an FOC during his time at the Mirror.

“I am sorry it has taken me so long to think about advising you via the AMP website; it was only when I picked up the recent Mirror Pensioner magazine from my dad’s house that I realised it would be nice to let you know – because the Daily Mirror was such a huge part of his life. His father, also called Thomas, worked there as an electrician too, and his sister Eileen worked in the offices.

“When my dad retired in his late 50s, he enjoyed his golf and continued to have regular lunches with several Mirror work colleagues. These lunches continued until they were all in their 80s and 90s. My dad found an interest in playing bowls when he could not play golf anymore.

“My mum sadly passed away in 2011, and dad was lucky to have three grand children and four great grandchildren who gave him such joy, especially in his later years. We had a period of great sadness when my sister Anne-Marie was killed in a car accident in 1988.

“It would be lovely if you could remember my dad in your next magazine. Thank you so much for your very kind interest.”
