News has reached us of the death on August 26 (2018) of former Mirror Group telecommunications technician RON BOCOCK, at the age of 88.
Ron was born in November, 1929 in Thornton Heath, south east London, an only child. He served his National service in the RAF.
Later in life he was a keen dancer, and he met his wife Mary at Purley’s Blue Orchid Ballroom. They married in April, 1954.
Ron was head-hunted by the Mirror in the early 1980s from Muirhead and Co of Beckenham, the electrical and mechanical engineers.
Ron was an engineer with a comprehensive knowledge of picture transmission, and was involved in the Hell Pressfax operation – full-page transmission to remote print sites.
He leaves wife Mary, children Carol, Sandra and Gerald, and six grandchildren. His daughter Carol said: “He loved dancing, wine-making and DIY to name a few. He was truly loved and treasured by us all.”
