JOHN LEWIS, who worked in the Daily Mirror Readers department for more than 25 years, passed away peacefully on September 1, 2022, aged 91.
John’s education was disrupted when World War Two broke out, and he left school at the age of 14. He completed his National Service in the Army and later qualified to enter “the print”.
John followed his older brother, Alf, (former head reader at the Daily Mail) into the newspaper industry and was a highly competent and well-respected colleague until his retirement in the mid-1980s. He enjoyed his work and, as a bachelor, was always willing to cover the more unsocial shifts for his colleagues who had families, which greatly increased his popularity!
In their spare time, John and Alf enjoyed time on the golf course, and were formidable darts players. John once partnered Bobby George, playing for England in a European competition.
