John Lane

ADVERTISING stalwart JOHN LANE died in Thailand on October 29, 2022. His colleague John French sent these words:

Farewell to a true gentleman

John Lane was a man whose company every woman loved to be in, he would always open doors for them, and light their cigarettes with his lighter – even though he himself never smoked in his life.

John Sidney Lane began his career at the Mirror on January 26, 1954. He started in the advertisement production department, then progressed to the ad make-up department before moving into mail order sales in the 1960s. He ran a  successful team right through to his retirement at 65 on January 23, 1997.

During his working life John spent many a holiday in Thailand, he would go sometimes two or three times a year. It was while on holiday that he met Nid, whom he went on to marry. When he retired he moved to Thailand to be with Nid and her family where they enjoyed 25 years together until his death at the age of 90.

He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
