Jeff Howlett

Posted: June 24th, 2022

We are grateful to Douglas Bence for letting us know that former Daily Mirror picture desk man and stone sub JEFF HOWLETT has died.

“Many of you will remember Jeff Howlett, who sat with his back to the picture desk and when he wasn’t in The Stab played his saxophone on B3. He left the paper in 1986.

“After a programme of chemotherapy prescribed for lymphoma, it stopped working and he decided not to go further with an alternative, and died thirty minutes after midnight on June 18.

“He was a big strong, magical man with a full life playing jazz, restoring boats and sailing. Jeff was hugely talented and produced a number of modern works of art for his house on the south coast. His role on ‘picture desk liaison’ doesn’t begin to do him justice.”
