IAIN FERGUSON, a senior executive at the Daily Record and news editor of the Sunday Mail, died on July 27 [2023], after a short illness. He was 69.

Former Daily Record managing editor Malcolm Speed said: “Iain worked for me when I was news editor. He was a top reporter in a team of top reporters. He was rightly proud to be a member of the investigation team, with Anna Smith and the late Charles Beaton, which won Reporter of the Year in the 1997 Scottish Press Awards for coverage of the Celtic Boys’ Club scandal.

“After the Record, Iain had a second successful career at Ayr Racecourse, in broadcasting and other parts of the media. Sincere condolences to his family.”
