Charles ‘Charlie’ Catchpole

DOYEN of the TV critics Charles “Charlie” Catchpole died on March 31 [2022], after a long illness. He was 76.

His funeral will be held at Mortlake Crematorium, Kew Meadow Path, Townmead Road, Richmond TW9 4EN on Wednesday, April 20 at 12.45, followed by drinks at The White Hart in Barnes.

Charlie wrote columns for the Mirror and Sunday People, retiring from the People for health reasons in 2015.

Piers Morgan said: “Brilliant TV critic, Fleet Street legend and charming, hilarious company. Sad news.”

Sun columnist Jane Moore, who worked with Charlie, said: “Charlie had a famously sharp wit and a sense of humour that his readers loved.”

Charlie wrote the Sunday People’s Man of the People column for six years, and performed a similar role on the Daily Express from 2001 to 2005.
