ALLAN DAVIES, who was Daily Mirror and group editorial manager in Tony Boram’s (pre-Maxwell) days, died on December 19, (2017). He was 88 and had struggled with prostate cancer for the last 20 years.

Colleagues will remember his kindness and tolerance when dealing with the NUJ and with all journalists as individuals.
He was a sub in Manchester before going south to edit Mirror Group News, the staff magazine, I think even in the days when it was called Stet.

He was a good guy who put the editorial workforce first, when he was a manager. In negotiations he knew what he was doing – and what we were doing. And he handled all of it with great sense, fairness and humour.

He leaves a wife, Pam, and son, Mark.
