FROM AMP committee member JOHN HEMPLE:
It is with a heavy heart and a great deal of personal sadness that I have to report the death of my brother Alan, who will be fondly remembered by many at Mirror Group.
Alan died from mesothelioma on Sunday, May 10, one day before his 72nd birthday.
His funeral is at 11.20am on Friday, May 29 at Basildon Crematorium, and afterward at Stock Brook Manor Golf Club.
Alan started work at the Daily Mirror in 1958 as a tape room messenger. He moved to the postal department then on to the telephone room, and finally to the Mirror library. He was FOC of the clerical chapel for two years while he was in the telephone room.
He was a most likeable person and had many friends and colleagues both from work and from his love of golf.
He served at his golf club as Seniors Captain and as Club Vice Captain. He was very much looking forward to becoming Captain of the golf club when suddenly the cancer struck.
Full obituary and tributes to follow.
