FORMER Mirror features sub JOHN CHAPLIN has just published his 13th book – Speedway Legends. It maybe an unlucky number for some, but the book has attracted high praise from critics who are familiar with Chaplin’s reputation as one of the world’s leading speedway historians.
Speedway Legends is the third in a trilogy from Chaplin and collaborator John Somerville, a follow-up to their highly successful Speedway Superheroes and Speedway’s Greatest Moments. Chaplin says: “Old hacks like me know only too well the value of a picture, and John Somerville’s unrivalled image archive has made this series something really special.
“Among our pensioners are many who confess they ‘used to go to speedway’. For those who followed the sport when it could be seen every night of the week in London, Speedway Legends will bring back many memories of great stars such as Bill Kitchen, Jack Parker, Vic Duggan, Eric Chitty, Ron Clarke, George Newton and Alec Statham.”
Speedway Legends by John Chaplin and John Somerville is published by Halsgrove and retails at £19.99. It’s available from the usual stockists, but you can order direct from Halsgrove by calling 01823 653 777 or from their website www.halsgrove.com
