JOHN HEMPLE joined the Daily Mirror in 1960, one day before his fifteenth birthday. During a 41-year career with the company he filled many different positions. He started work in the Share Registration Department after a short spell as an editorial messenger for Woman’s Mirror. Then he moved to the Pensions Office at the inception of the IPC Group Pension Scheme as deputy manager.
He moved to cashiers, eventually becoming Chief Cashier and then Deputy Finance Director of Mirror Group Newspapers plc. John was chairman of the Pensions Management Committee and became Chairman of the Trustee Board for a short period following the Maxwell debacle. He was made in redundant following the merger with Trinity Newspapers, and served as a Pensions Trustee until being made redundant.
