He’s no longer our Patron, but Baron Oakeshott of Seagrove Bay, to give him his full title, who became a life peer in 2000, must be included. An Oxford graduate, he first came to notice as Parliamentary Assistant to Labour’s Big Beast, Roy Jenkins.
Later on, Matthew became investment manager of Courtaulds’ pension fund. In 1986 he founded the property investment company, OLIM Property Ltd, of which he is now chairman. OLIM invests in commercial property for pension funds, investment trusts and charities.
He served as Treasury spokesman for the Lib Dems from 2001, and as Pensions spokesman from 2002 to 2010. He has taken leave of absence from the House of Lords, but has a deep and abiding interest in pension affairs and sends his good wishes for the future of AMP. Good to have a friend in the City.
